The Pen of the Year 2024 is inspired by the “Turquerie” period, an era between the 16th and 18th centuries when the splendor, aesthetics, and exotic culture of the Ottoman Empire reached Europe. The pen was designed by Serdar Gülgün, a renowned expert in Ottoman art, who describes himself as a “translator” transforming the old into something new.
The exclusive “Turquerie” edition of the Pen of the Year 2024 is limited to 315 fountain pens and 85 rollerball pens. The platinum-plated metal parts are adorned with 18 precious rubies. Tassels and crescent moons on the cap once symbolized power, and the cap’s headpiece features a stylized dome of an Ottoman tent. A fine chevron pattern decorates the barrel, cap, and grip, enhanced with decorative lacquer inlays. The 18-carat magnum bicolour gold nib promises a unique writing experience. An engraved tortoise—a symbol of luck in the Ottoman Empire—adorns the domed cap. The interior of the Pen of the Year reveals an intricately decorated inner sleeve.
